Our Past Projects

District Improvement Grant through Toledo City Council

The BNO applied for this Grant and we were approved for a $13,000 grant to spruce up The Triangle, a community area at the intersection of Airport Highway and South Avenue. We will be removing the mulch, adding flagpoles and flags with solar lighting for the nighttime hours, and creating a U.S. Military Service memorial. At the tip of The Triangle is The Triangle Garden, which Members of the BNO have maintained for Several years.

Sustainability Grant through Toledo-Lucas County Sustainability Commission

The BNO was one of three recipients of a $1,000 Sustainability Grant. We used these funds to purchase flowers to plant at businesses to both promote sustainability and going Green and to help our businesses brighten their properties. We also purchased flowers to donate to Global Youth Service Day volunteers so they could plant them at their own homes and learn quite early how we can do our part to live in a sustainable culture. These flower gardens were complementary to the Flower Garden at The Triangle.

We host:

Monthly meetings

Currently second Tuesday of the month, if the weather, pandemic and restrictions are permitting.  Meetings are open to the public with news about the BNO, introduction of events, and guest speakers.

Community Yard Sale

Centralized community sale, as well as advertising and directions for yard sales and garage sales held at numberous residences in The Burroughs Neighborhood held on the same days.

Community Preparedness Day

A day for the community to learn what they need to know in emergency situations and see firsthand what comes with fire, electrical, severe weather, disaster, animal, and marine safety.

Christmas Family Holiday Drive

A community effort to help families who could really use it during the holiday season with gift cards, food, and clothing for one or more specific families in The Burroughs Neighborhood.

Business & Craft Fair

A chance for Burroughs Neighborhood residents to showcase their craft talents and a free marketing opportunity for businesses who fall within our boundaries. To be combined with the community yard sale.

Community Picnic

A chance for The Burroughs Neighborhood and the Toledo community to get together and enjoy great weather, great food, games, and great fun. This is frequently a close-knit event with delicious food.

Political Candidate Forums

The BNO routinely hosts a forum for political candidates to voice their views on questions derived from concerns of our neighbors. We have hosted forums for City Council, Toledo Mayor, and Lucas County Commissioner candidates.

We participate in:

GLOBAL YOUTH SERVICE DAY

Formerly sponsored by the United Way of Greater Toledo, and 4-H, this event is a day where the youth go out and do great things in their communities. In The Burroughs Neighborhood, we help bridge the gap between the youth and the resources they need to do a litter clean-up. We clean our neighborhood and Burrogush Park, located behind Burroughs school.

STAMP OUT HUNGER

Every Second Saturday in May, the National Letter Carriers Association, which represents letter carriers of the United States Postal Service, hosts a food drive all across the country. We both volunteer and support the food drive regularly.

Burroughs Elementary Trunk-or-Treat

A night for kids to trick-or-treat early at their own school with neighbors dishing out sweets from the trunks of their cars in this annual event at Burroughs Elementary.

T-Town Action Week

The BNO has participated in litter sweeps and other projects put on by City of Toledo Departments during T-Town Action Weeks.
